Introduction
Thank you for visiting us.
The purpose of this website is to not only help you
plan your Cape Cod vacation in advance,
but also to serve as a back-up reference in case you ever find
yourself on a cool, gray, misty day, in a rented cottage with three
unhappy children claiming: "There's nothing to do!"
Most of the "activities"
in this guide are listed with the family in mind. We
recognize that Cape Cod has many, many lounges, bars, cafés,
coffeeshops and restaurants that are simply wonderful places to
spend a rainy afternoon. These were purposefully omitted
because their great flavors and ambience could not be enjoyed to
their fullest if you had the young ones in tow.
As much as possible, we have
noted contact information for all listings, including phone numbers
and web addresses. Our brief descriptions may not answer all
of your questions about a certain listing but we're sure their web
site will.
We have listed the Cape Cod
towns in geographical order beginning with the very tip of the Cape
(Provincetown),
working our way back towards the mainland. Feel free to jump around
using the menu at the left and remember that just because you are
staying in one particular town on Cape Cod doesn't mean you can't
take in all that the Cape has to offer.

Note 1: We have included
some boating-related activities in this rainy day guide, notably
ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket and whale watching.
We have done so for two reasons:
1. All
of these boats have interior seating to protect you from the
elements.
2.
All these companies will cancel their trips if the seas are too
rough or the rainstorm too violent.
Keep in mind that we are making
a distinction between a thunderstorm and a day of soft summer rain.
The former necessitates staying on land and protected while the
latter permits a crossing to the islands or a boat ride out to the
whales.
Note 2: Be mindful that
rainy days on Cape Cod are known for the incredible traffic they
create. While beach parking lots are virtually empty, the
roads leading to Hyannis and Provincetown tend to be filled bumper
to bumper. The Cape Cod Mall, in Hyannis, is particularly
popular on a rainy day. Expect the crowds and you won't be
surprised. Allow plenty of time and plan to arrive early.
NOTE: Movie matinees can and do sell-out on
rainy summer days!
Note 3: Even though we
did not list any beaches in our
recommendations,
walking a deserted shoreline during a light rain can be a most
wonderful activity provided you are dressed properly. Most, if
not all, towns suspend their summer requirements for parking permits
on rainy days.
Noticeably absent in our
listings are the many bike trails, swamp walks, nature trails,
mini-golf courses and other activities that can be found throughout
Cape Cod but are clearly "fair-weather" endeavors.

No guides are ever
"all-inclusive." Existing businesses close up shop and new companies open
every year. We will try to continually update this guidebook
to make it as thorough as possible in offering you quality
suggestions of what to do when it isn't a beach day on Cape Cod.
After reading through this
guide, if you would like to comment on it we would welcome any and
all feedback. Please send your opinions or updating
suggestions to:
